    This charge includes two composition lessons and free admission for
    all concerts during the festival/workshop.
To Register : Fill out the application form and send it to the festival office below.
The application form can be obtained from our website or through the festival office upon request.There's an opportunity that your composed solo piece for (oboe and recorder) would be performed in the workshop. To apply for this opportunity, send in 2 scores to our festival office no later than August 10,2012.

TAKEFU COMPOSITION AWARD 2012
(Composition Competition)

Takefu International Composition Workshop, directed by the internationally renowned composer Toshio Hosokawa, was started in 2001 on the theme of "From the World to Takefu, From Takefu to the World." As a part of the workshop, a composition competition, Takefu Composition Award, has been held since 2003 in order to seek for young talents to pioneer the new music of the 21st century. We are happy to announce the call for scores for this year’s edition of the composition competition.
●Qualification of applicants
Open to composers of any nationality under 35 years old of age on July 9, 2012.
●Eligibility of scores
The composition must be scored for solo or duo using the following instruments:
oboe (English horn is also available), French horn, percussion*, piano (playing inside the piano is allowed as long as there is no damage to the instrument), viola, double bass, recorder (sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, bass, and great bass are available), shakuhachi (all kinds are available)

  *The list of available percussion instruments are:
1 Xylophone (range: three octaves and a half)
1 Glockenspiel (without pedal)
3 Timpanis (a 26-inch instrument, a 29-inch instrument, and a 32-inch instrument)
1 Bongo
2 Congas (different sizes)
5 Tom-toms (five different sizes)
1 Snare Drum
1 Bass Drum (middle size)
3 Suspended Cymbals (three different sizes)

・You may choose any of the percussion instrument(s) from the list above.
・Any performance instructions that could cause a damage to the instrument(s) are not permitted.

The duration of the piece must be 10 minutes or less. The work must not have been performed in public, broadcast, nor published. As for the duo instrumentation, any combination from the instruments above is permitted. Please note that the same instruments cannot be doubled. Scoring for piano duo on one piano is allowed. Works with electronics are excluded.

●Entry deadline
The entry (four printed and bound scores as well as information on the composer) must be delivered by post to the office by July 9, 2012.
●Entry fee
No fee is required.

●Entry procedure
Send in four printed and bound scores to the address below by post mail.
Enclose information including your name, address, the date of birth, telephone and/or fax number, and e-mail address.
Submitted materials will not be returned.

●Selection procedure
At the preliminary screening, up to three works will be selected by the jury as the finalists. These works will be premiered by professional musicians at one of the concerts during the Takefu International Composition Workshop 2012 (September 2 through 9, 2012). The jury in 2012 are Toshio Hosokawa, Misato Mochizuki, and Hiroyuki Itoh. (Francesco Filidei will join the jury at the final selection.)
The finalist composers will be invited to the Takefu International Composition Workshop 2012 in order for them to be able to attend the rehearsals and premiere of the work as well as lectures, seminars and so on during the composition workshop. The festival will pay for the cost of travel (up to 50,000 Japanese yen), accommodation, and meals. The winning work of the competition will be announced after the premieres. The total amount of the prize is 100,000 Japanese yen.
●Remarks
The result of the preliminary screening will be notified to all applicants by the end of July.

In case parts are needed for the premiere, the composer must provide them to the office promptly. (The cost of producing the parts and the postage to send them to us is on the composer’s expense.)

In case the selected composer(s) live(s) outside of Japan, the festival will only pay up to 50,000 Japanese yen as the travel expense.

To the best piece among all premiered pieces by younger composers performed during the workshop (this includes the three finalist pieces of the Takefu Composition Award 2012), the Takefu “International” Composition Award (200,000 Japanese yen) will be given. The exchange composer to the Royaumont Foundation’s composition seminar “Voix Nouvelles 2013” will also be selected.

In case your work is not selected at the preliminary screening and you would like to participate in the Takefu International Composition Workshop 2012 (September 2 through 9, 2012) as one of the “passive students,” it is necessary for you to send us a filled out application form (the format is available from our office). We will admit as many as twenty attendants as the passive students. To attend the workshop, you need to pay the tuition fee (i.e. 35,000 Japanese yen for the entire period). Please note that the tuition fee does not cover transportation, nor housing, nor meals. Information on housing and transportation etc. are available from the office. Please feel free to contact the office for further information on the composition workshop.

Takefu Composition Award 2012 Preliminary Screening Result

We are happy to announce that the following three works were selected as the finalists of the Takefu Composition Award 2012.
(These three works will be premiered during the Takefu International Composition Workshop. The winning work of the competition will be announced after the premieres. Francesco Filidei will join the jury at the final selection.)

Yumiko Yokoi "Lynx Hunt" (viola solo)
Sayaka Tomita "ten kai" (tenor-recorder and double bass)

The composers above will be invited to “Takefu International Composition Workshop”to attend rehearsals and the premiere of their works as well as lectures, seminars, etc.

The jury also added that many of the entries this year were at the very high level, and the following composers were recognized with honorable mentions:

Aaron Einbond, Koji Yamabe, Takahiro Kuroda, Facundo Nicolas Llompar, Kou Sahara, and Kyoko Yamaguchi
